![]() If anyone reading this wants a good Metroidvania that also includes turn based 3v3 battles and monster collecting, then I’d give it a try. You can respec at will pretty easily, and can build any team you want around monsters you like. It doesn’t focus on evolution like Pokémon, only a very small handful evolve, but it’s geared more towards finding them in the overworld and getting them to drop eggs so you can hatch your own, and they hatch about 2 levels below your highest to completely remove any grind. It has 3v3 battles instead of overworld one two punch type battles and they really make you focus on team building and synergy. It’s a pure Metroidvania, but only penalizes you with money or restarting a battle if you die, which is fine because some of them are REALLY hard, and take some thinking, or swapping the monsters you use because they do zero (or little) damage against the current boss. I always keep a bird familiar as my companion for essentially a 3rd jump while just moving around the world exploring. One of them follows you around, and you get to swap them out as quick and often as you want. There are a handful of character upgrades (double jump, a some keys to unlock new areas) but the coolest part of the game is that you use the monsters you’ve hatched as traversal skills (flying, swimming, activating specific elemental switches, avoiding monster battles, mount for faster speed, etc). ![]() It’s like I’d Pokémon had full blown skill trees for absolutely every Pokémon, allowing you to spec them for a specific build, with stat boosts and passives, along with equipment like a more standard RPG. I started playing it last week and I’ve been so completely and totally absorbed. Monster Sanctuary is absolutely bonkers amazing. If you even remotely like Pokémon or monster tamer games, and like metroidvanias, I would give another recommendation if you’re looking (Okay I realize after writing this how long winded it was, but since it’s already done I’m gonna just leave it lol ): ![]() It’s only Metroid-esque because it’s a 2D platformer and a small handful of skills carry over between runs. Deadcells is more of a Permadeath in a 2D platformer style. It is 1million% not a game for everyone so I totally understand.
